September 7 – November 1, 2019 Halifax NS
On September 7th, 2019 hurricane Dorian blew through Nova Scotia, leaving in its wake a tower crane collapsed in the downtown core of Halifax. Nearby buildings were severely damaged, resulting in a significant amount of debris to clean up.
The city, reeling from the wreckage left behind, was in shock when they realized the extent of the damages that had resulted. Volcano, Harbourside Engineering and R&D Cranes were called in along with Department of Labour and city officials, to assess the scene and formulate a plan for the clean up. Working closely together, day and night, to safely remove the collapsed crane, was a high-profile project for all parties involved, and with the eyes of the nation watching closely.
This was a time sensitive operation as local businesses in the immediate vicinity of the wreckage were shut down and losing revenue each day that went by. As a result, there was a significant amount of pressure to complete the work in an accelerated time frame. Volcano staff worked effortlessly to ensure that all precautions were taken to complete the job in a safe and efficient manner.
The project wrapped up on schedule and even with the complex nature of this work, it was completed with zero incidents or injuries.
