In the fall of 2018, Volcano was awarded the contract to demolish the old chilled water system at the Dalhousie Central Services Building. To maintain schedule, Volcano working closely with R&D Crane and a local engineering firm to put together a plan to lift the cooling tower units down in one piece and demolish them using shears on the ground.
This was a time sensitive operation, given the new units needed to be up and running as soon as possible. This was completed ahead of schedule with zero injuries and within budget. The four cooling tower units ranging in weight from 18,000 lbs. to 27,000 lbs were safely lifted down using an engineered lifting platform and placed in the laydown area in a 12 hour time period.
